Stinger is a stand-alone utility used to detect and remove specific viruses. It is not a substitute for full anti-virus protection, but rather a tool to assist administrators and users when dealing with an infected system. Stinger utilizes next generation scan engine technology, including process scanning, digitally signed DAT files, and scan performance optimizations.

A new Stinger has been developed to specifically target "FakeAlert" threats being seen in the wild. This version of Stinger Detects and removes the following "FakeAlert" Variants - Kryptik <http://vil.nai.com/vil/content/v_259520.htm> , AVP Security <http://vil.nai.com/vil/content/v_259519.htm> , Fakespypro <http://vil.nai.com/vil/content/v_245087.htm> , Winwebsec <http://vil.nai.com/vil/content/v_153577.htm> , Antivirus Soft and XPSpy.
