Newsbank: LimeWire Turns to AVG

March 11, 2010

The LimeWire file-sharing network has announced a deal with AVG to provide file scanning and blocking to users of LimeWire Pro.

"By integrating AVG's antivirus SDK engine, all files that LimeWire Pro users download will now be scanned before they run," writes CNET's Seth Rosenblatt. "A pop-up will appear letting users know when a file has been scanned or blocked."

"This is a smart to make, as users become more aware of the risky nature of running audio, video, and program executables from unverifiable sources without scanning them first," Rosenblatt writes.
